Au Pair duties

Au Pair duties and responsibilities

As a live-in caregiver, your au pair is there to make life easier. No more waking the kids up at 6am so you can drop them at daycare before work, or worrying about picking them up on time, or fretting about finding a babysitter.

An au pair can exactly fit your schedule – mornings, afternoons and even babysitting for a weekly date-night!

Au pair’s duties are 25-35 hours per week (demi-pair up to 20 hours) of mostly childcare, and include:

  • Daycare / school / kinder runs
  • Some in-home care for young children
  • Playdates and extra-curricular activities
  • Food preparation for children
  • Bathing and dressing
  • Help older children with homework
  • Age-appropriate play and games
  • Help with light housework
  • Babysit for parent ‘date nights’

Can an au pair do housework?

Au pairs can help with light, daily housework:

  • Laundry
  • Vacuuming
  • Preparing meals and snacks for the children
  • Dishwasher and cleaning up after meals
  • Keeping the children’s rooms and play/living areas tidy
  • Keeping their own room, and the bathroom they use clean and tidy

Host Family Testimonial

Our au pair Judith has been a wonderful help during these first few months with our new baby.  I wish we could keep her forever!
