JCR Au Pairs and Nannies is as much about the positive experiences for our au pairs as we are about bringing flexible and culturally-rich childcare into your home. For most au pairs, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience they have been planning and saving for over many months or years.

Using an agency like ours means that our au pairs feel very comfortable, prepared (and excited) about travelling to Australia knowing they will be able to easily integrate into our families and will feel supported during their placement term.  Part of this is making sure our host families provide the right environment:

Host families will need to:

• Provide a nicely furnished bedroom for their au pair, with suitable bathroom access (shared with children ok but not other adults)
• Provide three meals a day, snacks, and include their au pair in restaurant outings
• Provide their au pair with at least two days off per week and one weekend off per month
• Live within walking-distance to public transport, or otherwise provide their au pair with access to a car for personal use. Please note that any vehicle an au pair drives must be roadworthy and fully insured for the au pair as driver.
• Make allowances for a young adult from another culture sharing your home
• Work in a spirit of open communication and cooperation with their au pair
• Take time to train their au pair in her duties and family routines
• Agree to and follow JCR’s host family terms and conditions

Great families:

• Make time for shared meals, and getting to know their au pair as a person
• Take their au pair on tourist outings and help them plan travels for their free time and holidays
• Take their au pair out for family dinners, to the movies, to a catchup with friends
• Take their au pair on family holidays
• Enrol their au pair in the local gym / sporting clubs of interest
• Celebrate their au pair’s birthday and other important milestones
